Born in 1956, Professor Cai graduated from the Agricultural Economics Department at Renmin University of China in 1982. Later, he received an M.A. in Economics from the Graduate School of CASS in 1985 and a Ph.D. in Economics from the same institution in 1989.
Professor Cai Fang is Chief Expert of National Think Tank at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He was an Academician and Vice President of the CASS, a position he held during September 2014 and March 2021. Before that, he served as Head of the Department of Rural Development Theory at the Rural Development Institute and Director of the Institute of Population and Labor Economics at CASS.
He is a member of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People’s Congress in China, and a member of the Standing Committee and Deputy Director of the Agricultural & Rural Affairs Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress. He also serves as Chairman of the Silk Road Research Institute sponsored by CASS in partnership with the China Association for the Promotion of Development Financing (CAPDF).
Professor Cai is Editor-in-Chief of Studies in Labor Economics. His research interests include labor economics, China’s economic growth, and income distribution.
